Understanding the subject
A metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms. A figure stated per tonne still needs a material basis: a tonne of metal, a tonne of concentrate and a tonne of contained antimony describe different quantities.
What it means in practice
Currency and delivery basis also matter. Unit conversion alone cannot make prices comparable when their product or market assumptions differ. Keep those assumptions attached to the number.
Bring it into your next discussion
When preparing a request, ask for the quote to state both the price unit and the product basis explicitly. This avoids a simple but consequential misunderstanding later in the commercial discussion.
- Identify the material basis of the tonne.
- Keep currency and delivery terms beside the price.
- Check whether moisture affects the quoted weight.
