Why antimony grade is different from recovery

Feed grade describes antimony content in the incoming material.

Quality and production · 12 October 2026

Understanding the subject

Feed grade describes antimony content in the incoming material. Recovery describes the proportion of that antimony that reaches the intended product under a defined process and measurement basis.

What it means in practice

A high grade should not be read as a recovery guarantee. Material characteristics, process design and operating conditions need evaluation. A production forecast should explain its tested or assumed recovery rather than leave it implicit.

Bring it into your next discussion

In an illustrative calculation, 10 tonnes of contained Sb at an assumed 80% recovery would yield 8 tonnes into the specified product stream. The assumption must be supported for the actual process before it becomes an operating forecast.

  • Separate feed grade from recovery assumptions.
  • State the product stream and calculation basis.
  • Request testwork supporting a forecast.
